The Belonging Index™

Between the welcome and the farewell lies the geography of what a house truly remembers. Most remember your credit card. Very few remember your silence.

You spend €20,000–€100,000 a year on hotel loyalty programmes, private clubs, and premium memberships. You collect tiers the way others collect wine — patiently, with quiet expectation. But can you answer one question: do they actually know who you are?

The Belonging Index™ is not a ranking. It is an editorial portrait — a private reading of how the world’s most celebrated loyalty programmes treat the people who trust them most. We study their promises. We listen to their silences. And we compose, with care, an honest reflection of where each one truly sits on the only scale that matters: the distance between transaction and belonging.

We do not accept sponsorships. We carry no affiliate links. We have no commercial relationship with any programme we portrait. What you read here is composed in independence — and delivered with editorial intent.

A Letter on Belonging

I have spent fifteen years walking into hotel lobbies — not as a guest, but as someone who listens. Listens to the way a name is pronounced at reception. Watches whether the concierge reaches for a screen or for a memory. Notes whether the flowers in the room were chosen, or merely placed.

What I learned is that belonging is not a tier. It is not a card. It is a quality of attention so rare that most luxury brands cannot sustain it past the third visit. They build elaborate architectures of recognition — points, levels, lounges, upgrades — and yet the guest remains, at the deepest level, unknown.

This index was born from a simple question I kept asking myself in suites from Kyoto to Comporta: does this house remember me, or does it merely process me? The answer, I found, divides the entire landscape of luxury hospitality into four unmistakable territories.

What follows is the atlas itself — four territories of belonging, from silence to intimacy.
